TOK I Assignments (Spring Semester)

  1. Summative Journal One - due 2/13 or 2/14, depending on block
  2. Read Ghosts: found in Alchin, pages 12-13. Be prepared to discuss the questions at the end of the reading. Due: 2/17 or 2/20, depending on block
  3. Read the coversheet on the resources page and complete the survey - click here
  4. Bring in a persuasive newspaper article (you must believe that it is true). Due: 2/23 or 2/27, depending on block
  5. Read the Plato, Descartes, Thompson handout and be prepared to discuss them in class. Due: 2/28 or 3/1, depending on block
  6. Formative Journal Two - due 3/2 or 3/3, depending on block
  7. Summative Journal Two - due 3/6 or 3/7, depending on block
  8. Read: Alchin 269-287 - due 3/10 or 3/13, depending on block
  9. Register with wordpress.com by 3/14
  10. Summative Journal Three - due 3/22 or 3/23, depending on block
  11. Read: Alchin 210-226 - due 3/22 or 3/23, depending on block

  13. Summative journal (1, 2 or 3) rewrite - due by April 10. Rewrites will not be accepted after the 10th of April, 3:45pm.

  17. You should be working on your TOK mock essay. Please remember that this is a process and not something you can do last minute. You will have some class time to work, but are also expected to complete work outside of class. As always, I am available to conference with. Due Dates are as follows:
    • Outlines for the mock essays are due on 5/11 or 5/12, depending on block.
    • Rough drafts for the mock essays are due on 5/17 or 5/18, depending on block.
    • Final drafts for the mock essays are due on 5/24 or 5/25, depending on block.
  18. Please remember to contribute to our MAY/JUNE blog discussions on math and review work on wordpress.com. The rubric is available by clicking here or on the blog homepage. This is due on May 31.
  19. Journal four - rewrite. You may only rewrite journal four if I have already received a journal four from you. (If you are not in this situation, please see me immediately!) If you would like to rewrite journal four, please complete the following:
    • Schedule a time with me to discuss your previous journals
    • Obtain approval no later than May 18th to rewrite your journal
    • Read George Bernard Shaw's quotation and respond to the following question in 1-2 pages: To what extent does all progress depend on the unreasonable man?

TOK II Assignments (Fall Semester)

  3. Please remember to contribute to our August/September blog discussions on wordpress.com. The rubric is available by clicking here or on the blog homepage. Please be sure that you read the blog rubric carefully as it has changed since last year. Due September 30.
  4. Reading: Alchin: 156-168 - due 8/29 or 8/30, depending on block
  5. Mock Essay - due 9/14 or 9/15, depending on block
  6. Reading: Alchin: 189-201, due 9/29 -9/30
    1. Please be prepared to have an on-line discussion of this topic on the 29th and 30th of September. I will post a question or two for us to "discuss" throughout the day, over the 29th and 30th.
      • For our class discussions, please log-in, at various points whenever you can throughout the two-day window to add comments to other people's postings.  I will also do the same.  This is a bit experimental for us, so bear with me and don't get too excited if it doesn't work perfectly. But since our course work is based largely upon discussion, it seems like a good place to start. We will work out the kinks, and be flexible, as we go.  As we are working through this new discussion format, when you have concerns, please email me!
      • I will grade you according to the following rubric.
      • If you are having a hard time logging onto wordpress, please read these instructions.
      • You should spend about 45 minutes contributing to this discussion.
  7. Please be prepared to have another on-line discussion on history on the 4th and 5th of October. I will post three questions for us to "discuss" throughout the day, over the 4th and 5th.
    • IF you have time and would like to provide me with some feedback about our on-line blog discussions, please click here. This survey should take you 5-10 minutes to complete.
    • In case you have forgotten any details about these discussions, please refer to the bullets under assignment 6.

  11. Presentation 2 - due 12/5 or 12/6, depending on block
  12. Presentation 3 - due 1/19/2009 or 1/20/2009 (replacement)
  13. Essay on May 2009 Prescribed Title - due 1/26 or 1/27, depending on block

  16. If you would like to re-write either mock essay 1 or mock essay 2, you must meet the following requirements:
    • Schedule a conference with me for Sat., Mon., or Tues. after school.
      • Bring both of your mock essays with you and plan on spending about 20 minutes conferencing with me.
        • Once you have completed your conference with me, you may begin re-writing your mock essay.
          • Final draft of your optional re-write will be due no later than 3:45pm on December 15th
